Reap the rewards of rubber mulch this summer

Posted by Jamie Kavanagh on

Now spring has passed and summer is here, the critters and insects come out in force. Warmer weather, more humidity in some areas of the country and a lot more time spent outside generally means any shortcomings in your yard or your landscaping will make themselves obvious.

Using wood mulch is one landscaping faux pas many people make. It's only when kids come in all brown and dirty from playing in it, or run screaming as they see something long and crawly that has made its home in it that the mistake becomes obvious. While it might look good at first, a few hours playing in and around it will soon have it looking tired and worn out!

Rubber mulch is the answer

If your children use the garden to play, you're likely looking for ground cover that is safe, non-toxic, won't stain and can cope with harsh use and all the weather your climate can throw at it. That's where rubber mulch proves its worth.

Rubber mulch is made from recycled tires, so it environmentally friendly. It is also designed to stay colorfast, offer a safe play area for children, can cope with constant movement and impact such as play and can cope with warm, wet, extreme cold and wind, all without degrading, staining or disappearing.

As an added bonus, it doesn't make a good home for critters either!

While insects and small creatures will make a home anywhere, wood mulch is actively attractive to them. The warmth, damp and the fact that it is biodegradable makes for a good home for life of all kinds. Rubber mulch doesn't. So if your children love playing in the yard and you don't love insects, this is the landscaping product for you!

We're not going to sit here and tell you that rubber mulch is the cure-all snake oil of garden products because we know it isn't. What rubber mulch is, is a much cleaner, greener, more manageable alternative to wood mulch. It doesn't get mold, it doesn't play host to insects, it's safe around children, it doesn't leak color, it doesn't smell and it does all those positive things wood mulch can do.

Rubber mulch can act as ground cover, a soft landing, an attractive border, a low-maintenance garden covering, ground insulator and moisture preserver just like wood mulch, but without the downsides.
