Reap the rewards of rubber mulch this summer

Posted by Jamie Kavanagh on

Now spring has passed and summer is here, the critters and insects come out in force. Warmer weather, more humidity in some areas of the country and a lot more time spent outside generally means any shortcomings in your yard or your landscaping will make themselves obvious. Using wood mulch is one landscaping faux pas many people make. It's only when kids come in all brown and dirty from playing in it, or run screaming as they see something long and crawly that has made its home in it that the mistake becomes obvious. Some clever uses for old tires

Posted by Jamie Kavanagh on

As you probably know, rubber mulch is made from recycled tires. With over 290 million tires disposed of every year, we need to come up with increasingly clever ways of reusing or recycling them. Otherwise they just end up in landfill and that's not a good thing! Modern tire compounds mean it would take thousands of years for a tire to fully degrade. During that time, they could leak into the water table, hold water destined for the land and many other bad things. The fewer we put into the ground the better. Dallas Rubber Mulch recycles as many tires...

As a society, we are certainly becoming more risk-averse to a detrimental degree. Sure, we all want our kids to be safe but we are taking it too far. In my own childhood, I climbed trees and promptly fell out....

Tire recycling and rubber mulch

Posted by Jamie Kavanagh on

There are an estimated 290 million vehicle tires discarded each year across the country. That's just over one per head of population. Mostly these tires are dumped into landfill, with recycling taking only a small proportion of that volume. That's changing with the increased popularity of rubber mulch. The vast majority of vehicle tires would end up in landfill to decompose. Unfortunately, the nature of the tire means it would take several thousand years to fully rot down. The vulcanized rubber compound is designed to be heard wearing and resist wear, so decomposition would take the longest time. Tire recycling...
